The Grommie organised a sensational girls surfing weekend away, and when she asked for surf - she got it! We started out at Queens Head on Friday afternoon after looking at some nice waves peeling off down the beach. But there was a problem when we (I!) got down to sea level because these waves were huge! I had already convinced Champagnekate and Grommie that we could do it so I had to suck it up and lead 'em out there. Needless to say I didn't last long, but Grommie got some beauties!
The next morning we headed off to Crescent and decided we would have to at least have a go at these mega waves. Paddling out was no problem thanks to the large rip flowing out, but CK and I found ourselves out with the big boys at the very end of the point when we really didn't want to be there. After some serious panic (we were shaking as we looked down on those monsters passing under us) and some serious paddling, we found our way back and caught one in.
Meanwhile, Grommie was lapping them up! This is her above in the botttom right corner cruising along a big one.
Still shaking, but safely out!
Later in the day, with a little bit of wind.
Of course, the food was divine. For the record: sushi rolls, thai beef salad, salmon steaks and salad, roast vegetable salad, goats cheese, pear and blue cheese tart, spinach and cheese pie, yummy chicken balls, chicken salad, avocado, beer, wine, mango icecream, chocolate mousse... Need I say more?
Still hungry, CK eats the moon.
Sunday morning... and it aint getting any smaller! Three guys ended up around the headland on that strong rip that CK and I were in the day before. Two of them took their lives in their hands and paddled in through the trecherous rocks on the little back-beach, and the other was rescued by the clubbies in the rubber duck. Grommie and Dewy had a hand in signalling the stranded surfer from their spot on the headland. I expect they will recieve an award on Australia day for their dedicated work.
The view from the shade.
