Drifters

I saw the surf movie Drift today – a classic Aussie surf movie if ever there was one. And set in the 70’s too – even better! All those flares, all that long hair, and best of all those rough and ready blokey types who love a good punch up nearly as much as they love their mum. I liked it a lot. Nice to see home grown nostalgia in surfing, alongside a wholesome lead character who can double as Superman’s blonde brother (doncha love a super hero chin!)

I worried about the strong themes in this movie but Molly reassured me that it was just like the kids movie Surf’s Up. You know, with the penguins? There are some weird correlations there… the hippie guy, his female friend… Obviously only a small section of the population who have seen both movies will know what I mean. (Think about it you people!). But no-one dies in Surf’s Up.

That's Grommie catching a big one on the Point
Still on the home grown theme, I noticed a couple of surfermums out at the Point today alongside (my) Surferboy and a boogie boarder. Thank you ladies. We all know it takes a village to raise a child. And to teach em to surf! Cheers.

Couldn't help but put this photo on the blog. It's every surfermums housework nightmare - whoops, wrong board!
I think she's in the Iron Woman event.

From Mullum to Blackie

Do you know about knitting graffiti?

It’s tagging in the same way that people “tag” trains and walls etc with spray paint, but these guys use knitting needles and brightly coloured wool. And it's just as illegal. Now, we are not talking about someone nailing a doily to a tree, we are talking about people speed crocheting it around the actual tree. Like someone knitting something onto you while you stand still. You can be arrested for doing this to a public object. This tree is at the entrance to the unique town of Mullumbimby on the beautiful north coast. These '"tags" are now part of police records. The CWA must be proud.

So Mullumbimby.

Spent the best part of the day on the road yesterday driving home only to sit and watch Surferboy have a late surf at Blackhead in the rain. He surfed into the night. I took photos, I waited in the car while the rain came down in sheets until I no longer had even the blurriest of vision, and then I had to flash my lights to get him out of the water in the end! I think he was grateful, he was smiling when he got out. Bless im.

Haven’t had a surf in a while (was a little bit big for me today, just quietly), so will be looking for some surfermums to come out with me when this swell settles down a little. There were plenty of surfers out at Blackie today and I noticed a couple of boards were broken in the heavy swell. Check out the unknown surfer below.

P.S. Anyone wanna learn ukelele? I'm gonna do a one day course in June. Guaranteed to learn 6 songs
before the day is out. Tempting huh?

Sensational Saturday

If you thought Good Friday was good then Sensational Saturday was way better!

Mind you, I had to coax and cajole The Grommie to come and surf with the big guns at mid beach, Blackhead, but when she finally got a taste for it, she was flying!

Since I'm usually required to take pictures of Surferboy when he surfs, I requested that he take some of me on Sensational Saturday...so that he could fully appreciate the difficulty of working a digital camera to take surfing snaps.

I surfed my arse of that day! Taking off on monsters that just howled and snorted behind me as I rode off into the distance. Best day ever, biggest surf ever, biggest fun ever.

And what pictures did I get of it? One video of me falling off and then listening to Husband and son argue about whether they captured video footage of my best wave ever, and whose fault it was if they didn't (all while filming their feet and the sand!)

Oh yeah...and this great photo of The Grommie.

Typical.

North Shore Dreaming

Just another day in Hawaii......same old, same old......... NOT!!!!!!
The girls checking out Panua before an awesome morning of surf with turtles, whales and sharks....

Bernie and Annie will be carving up Waikiki very soon....... say hi to Thomas and Brian at Moku Surf Shop.
Surley we could plan a girls trip in 2 or 3 years , maybe even a mother daughter trip so it sounds more appealing to the menfolk.......
Any takers???

Good Friday..............for some!

Great waves today at Crowdy. There's nothing quite like the feeling of knock one's loved one off their perch, especially when it's your wave. Go Grommie....

Perfection!

What a weekend! I don't know how we do it, but once again the MOB jagged awesome weather and some nice little surfermum waves for our recent get together.

Friday saw The Grommie, Annie, Bel and yours truly try for some gnarly little waves at Cellito. It was an exercise in frustration mostly but we didn't let it dampen our spirits.

The highlight of the day was watching Grommie dance her way out of a giant march fly attack! The twist on the end put her flat on her arse and kept us laughing for the remainder of the trip. (Don't worry - she was laughing too!) As Grommie nursed her deriaire with a cup of tea late Friday arvo, the remaining intrepid adventurers paddled out on to the lake for some flat water action. We were silly. There's even video evidence of our silliness since Annie took the waterproof camera out there too.
Here's a still shot from the house.... see us down there?

On saturday we ventured down to Seal Rocks and had the most magnificent day playing in some neat little waves off the point at beach no. 1. Here is the view looking west toward the beautiful headlands and forest;
It's just gorgeous down there, I'd forgotten how good it was.

We headed back down there after lunch cause we just couldn't get enough of it! A lovely fisherman took this photo of us at the end. He commented that we got some great waves out there! How good is that?!

You shoulda seen the food we ate! OMG it was good! Salads, feta, pesto, olive sour dough, chocolate, champers, smoked salmon, and lashings of butter! Just divine. Sorry there is no photo of food - it was just too good not to eat. Next time I will take photos. Promise.

Bel and I headed down for a lakeside drinky-poo on Saturday night. The view from the rock:
Later in the night there was a reunion of old friends:. Naughty Grommie.

And this is a photo of my foot, for no particular reason. Belinda took it.

All in all, it was a wondrous weekend. Thank you Mobsters! You are beautiful and you make life fun.

On the inside

...Sitting at my desk looking like I am doing library work...but on the inside I am jumping for joy! Students keep coming up and asking me stuff, other staff just keep working as normal, classes come and go...no-one can see the glee!  Hee hee hee.

Willyweather tells me to expect the nor'easter tomorrow and Saturday, the swell 1.3m and dropping slightly.

WOOOHOOO!! Sounds like surfermum waves to me!

Hi ho, hi ho, its off to Cellito I go, with a board and some fun, and a surfermum... hi-ho-hi-ho!
